Search and paid media are often compared as if they were competing budgets. They solve different problems. Search reaches people who are already looking for an answer, which means the intent is present and the task is to be findable and convincing. Paid media on social and display platforms can reach people who are not looking yet, which means the task is to create the interest before it can be captured.
Search tends to be the better starting point when demand already exists and the offer is easy to describe.
Paid media earns its place when you need reach beyond existing demand, or speed.
Mature programs use paid media to create and test demand, then use search and content to capture and convert it as awareness grows. The sequencing matters more than the choice: start where intent is cheapest to reach, use the data to inform the rest, and never run one without measuring the other.
