A homepage has to speak to everyone the business serves, from first-time visitors to existing customers. That breadth is a strength for the brand and a weakness for a specific campaign, because it rarely answers one narrow question with one clear next step.
A landing page narrows everything to a single purpose.
Not every click needs a landing page. Organic visitors and returning customers often benefit from the fuller picture a homepage provides. The case for a dedicated page is strongest when paid spend is involved and the message needs to stay tightly matched to the ad.
Start from the intent behind the click and write backwards. If the ad promised a specific outcome, the page should open by confirming it, then remove every reason to hesitate, and finish with an obvious way to act. Then measure it against the same conversion you defined before spending.
